Started in 1980 as a small fish market in Waipahu, Yama's has grown its offerings to a number of Hawaiian foods and local favorites, as well as haupia desserts.
For over 40 years, Yama’s Fish Market has been serving up the ono flavors of Hawaiʻi—handcrafted plates, island-style favorites, and fresh poke made daily. Our story is part of Hawaiʻi’s food history: the plate lunch that grew out of plantation days, when workers from Hawaiʻi, Japan, China, Portugal, and the Philippines all shared their foods. Rice, meats, and veggies came together, creating the island comfort meals we still love today.
Over time, local families made these dishes their own—from smoky kalua pig and shoyu chicken to mochiko chicken and hearty beef stew. At Yama’s, we carry on that tradition, keeping the classics alive while adding our own twist, like our signature Lau Lau made with chicken, pork, and fresh luʻau leaf—prepared the same way since day one.
Every day we also make fresh poke using high-quality, sashimi-grade fish straight from the Honolulu auction, seasoned with our house-made sauces and marinades. From classic shoyu to spicy or limu, each batch is made small so it stays fresh and ono all day long.
And no plate is pau without something sweet. Haupia has been part of Hawaiian gatherings for generations—a coconut pudding that’s simple, comforting, and always ono. At Yama’s, we make ours fresh in small batches, and we even take it further with modern haupia desserts you can only find here.
We offer take-out only (no dine-in) so you can enjoy your Yama’s dishes at home, at the park, or at the beach. We also provide island-wide catering for office gatherings and family functions, so you can share the flavors of Yama’s wherever you are.
